Political Parties are public authorities and are subject to RTI Act

CL : Land and huge Government accommodations at concessional rates, income-tax exemptions and free air-time on Doordarshan-all these benefits to political parties given by Central government show that they are substantially financed by the Central Government and, therefore, they are public authorities under section 2(h) of the RTI Act. Inspite of being non-governmental, they come to wield or directly or indirectly influence exercise of governmental power. Political Parties continuously perform
